Follow @Karplod Here’s another tale from Asian roads – one that has a happy ending, though, as you will soon see for yourself, it could have easily gone the other way with painfully disastrous results… The driver of the car, the sounds of which reminds us of a Subaru model, was going faster than what the road traffic permitted, and at the same time, a scooter rider in the middle lane failed to look over his shoulder while changing lanes. Well, one plus one equals two, and the car bumped into the scooter shooting the rider into the air before he landed on the side of the bike. Amazingly, even though he was only wearing a safety helmet, the rider made it out alive, and unless we missed something without a scratch. Source Follow @Karplod

Follow @Karplod ews regarding the Marussia B2 has been very quiet of late, so quiet in fact that we began to think the worst for the company. However, the brand’s only model, the B2 was recently spotted testing with light disguise suggesting that development of Russia’s only supercar is coming along nicely. Images were released of the B2 in the flesh well over two-years ago and the fact that this prototype is camouflaged suggests that some slight exterior modifications have been undertaken for the production variant of the car. It was reported back in May that all 500 units of the Marussia B2 had been sold despite no test drives or automotive reviews being conducted, suggesting that Marussia is either really persuasive in getting orders, people respect its involvement in Formula One, or the B2 simply looks stunning in the flesh. Either way, the B2 is said to be offered with a choice of two Cosworth V6 engines. The entry-level model will come fitted with a 3.5 liter unit developing 300hp and 300lb-ft of torque, while the top-of-the-range B2 will feature a turbocharged 2.8 liter engine pumping out an impressive 420hp and 442lb-ft of torque. Spyshots: Marussia B2 Spotted Testing Follow @Karplod

Follow @Karplod The Jaguar C-X75 supercar has been axed. Global brand director Adrian Hallmark confirmed that the decision not to put the radical hybrid into production had been taken due to the current global economic crisis. Five working prototypes will continue to be developed until next May. Up to three of these will then be sold at auction, while one will go into a future Jaguar museum and the other will be kept by Jaguar for running demonstrations. “We feel we could make the car work, but looking at the global austerity measures in place now, it seems the wrong time to launch an £800,000 to £1 million supercar,” said Hallmark. “This is backed up by other products from us that people are screaming out for.” The C-X75 was first revealed as a concept at the Paris motor show in 2010. Its hybrid drivetrain included a pair of gas turbines to power the car once charge from the four electric motors, one mounted at each wheel, had expired. In May 2011 Jaguar confirmed the C-X75, which features the firm’s first bonded carbonfibre chassis using Williams F1 expertise, had been signed off for production, albeit without the gas turbines. The original drivetrain had been replaced with a turbocharged/supercharged 1.6-litre petrol engine and two electric motors, mounted at either end of the car, driving transaxles and powered by a liquid/air-cooled battery pack. The combined power figure of the hybrid drivetrain was 888bhp and combined torque 590lb ft. The C-X75 could crack 0-60mph in 2.8sec and promised 0-100mph in less than 6.0sec. An all-electric range of 60 miles was quoted. Hallmark said the undisclosed investment in the C-X75 would not be wasted, and 60 per cent of its technology would filter through to future Jaguars. The hybrid technology, he said, could be used on a three-cylinder engine to give it the power of a six-cylinder engine. The C-X75′s sophisticated aerodynamics should also influence future Jaguars, while the high-pressure supercharger technology could be used on future performance Jaguars with four-cylinder engines. Hallmark said around 100 expressions of interest had been taken in the C-X75, with the maximum number of cars to be built capped at 250. The C-X75′s carbonfibre [...]

Follow @Karplod The area surrounding Lamborghini’s factory in Sant’Agata Bolognese, Italy, is mostly made up of rustic farmland; the tranquil ambience interrupted only by a passing tractor every now and then. You start to wonder, this is where one some of the world’s most ferocious supercars are born? Then, as you approach the Lamborghini factory and see the name of company founder Ferruccio Lamborghini on one of the street signs, suddenly it all makes sense. Ferruccio, after all, was born to a grape farmer and made his fortune originally by building tractors, some of them still in use on the nearby farms. As Lamborghini gets ready to celebrate its 50th anniversary next year, we’ve taken some time out to look at the company’s past and see how the modern Lambos hold up against their ancestors. Helping us in our research are two of Lamborghini’s most important models, a Countach and the latest Aventador. Sitting the two cars side by side, it’s easy to see how far Lamborghini has come in just the past two decades. At the same time, there’s an undeniable link between the two cars, with the wedge profile and no-nonsense look confirming their bloodline. This particular Countach, by the way, is the 25th Anniversary Edition, which Lamborghini released in 1988. It’s also the very last Countach ever built–Lamborghini took the car out of its official museum, which made hopping behind the wheel very nerve-racking. Only 658 Countach 25th Anniversary Edition models were built over the span of a year, each of them powered by a 5.2-liter V-12 delivering 455 horsepower and capable of carrying them to a top speed of 183 mph. The cars featured new front and side spoilers and modified air vents to set them apart from the previous Countach Quattrovalvole (QV), and handling some of those modifications was none other than Horacio Pagani, who worked at Lamborghini before heading off to start his own supercar company. Lamborghini Aventador LP 700-4The Aventador LP 700-4 should be familiar with most Motor Authority readers. If not, click here for our first drive. Between the launch of the two cars, Lamborghini was bought by Audi. This helped its supercars, which admittedly had a [...]

Follow @Karplod An early look at the new face of the Volvo S80 has made its way to the web. The Chinese site Auto Sina spotted a revised version of the country’s S80L out in public and in plain view. Not too long ago, Doug Speck, the global head of marketing and sales for Volvo, said designers were working on a mild facelift for the S60 and S80, and while it is possible the Swedish manufacturer will roll out a different front fascia for the US market, the move seems unlikely. The S80L seen here boats a tweaked grille and a Passat-inspired lower valance. New wheels and side-view mirrors also appear to be part of the update, as does a modified rear bumper and exhaust outlets. Volvo is set to debut the facelifed S80 next year, and while the manufacturer hasn’t delivered an exact time frame, good money is on the vehicle showing up at the Detroit Auto Show in January or the Geneva Motor Show in March. Stay tuned for more information. Volvo S80 nip/tuck spotted in China Follow @Karplod

Follow @Karplod Starting next year, Subaru will make a surprising move and discontinue selling the high-performance WRX STI in the United Kingdom. The Japanese automaker has confirmed to Auto Express that they will end sales of the popular WRX, WRX STI and Impreza and they will no longer appear on UK roads after current supplies run out. The British automotive site reports that a spokesman for the brand confirmed that there isn’t enough demand for the cars in the UK, so the cars will be axed from the UK line-up. Even though Subaru launched the new Impreza in the U.S. and Japan last year with great success, the company has decided to pull the plug on the new model in the UK. The spokesman for the company said, “The new Impreza has been under evaluation in the UK for 12 months, but the decision has been taken not to bring that car to the UK because of insufficient demand.” Demand high in the U.S. While the demand is low in the UK, sales of the new 2012 Impreza have been sizzling hot here in the U.S. The fuel-efficient Impreza is attracting new buyers faster than any other car in the Subaru lineup. The report from Subaru of America says that the 2012 Impreza has an astounding 184.2 percent increase YTD. The next nearest car in the lineup is the Legacy with a 13.6 percent increase. The fourth generation Subaru Impreza is all-new for 2012, and the complete makeover is attracting new buyers here in the U.S. beyond the faithful loyalists. The high demand is due to its new stylish exterior and interior design, and a new fuel-efficient powertrain. It features a new 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine that produces similar power and performance as the outgoing 2.5-liter engine. But fuel efficiency has been increased by a whopping 36 percent. The 2012 Impreza gets a stellar 36 mpg with the CVT, making the Impreza the most fuel-efficient all-wheel-drive gas-powered car on the planet. The end of the performance WRX STI in the UK The Brits will no longer have the high-performance WRX STI available either.
Follow @Karplod A Lamborghini seized by receivers has been sold at auction for a bargain. Well, a relative bargain, anyway. The 2012 model Lamborghini Gallardo Spyder LP570-4 Performante usually has an asking price of $577,300 plus on-road costs, which equates to a total price of more than $600,000. The model sold last night had just 970 kilometres on the clock and fetched $409,000 at auction – representing a fairly handy discount of about $200,000 for the buyer of the ultra-rare and exotic machine. The auction was hosted at Fox Studios in Sydney by Pickles Auctions, on behalf of the finance company that recently seized several vehicles – including two from a stand at the Sydney motor show – after the Italian supercar brand’s Sydney dealership failed. The Pickles Auctions manager of prestige vehicles, Steve Allen, said the price paid for the all-wheel-drive Lamborghini Gallardo exceeded the company’s expectations. “There was a lot of genuine interest in the car,” Allen said. “We had eight to 10 genuine bidders before the final price of just under $410,000 was reached. “We were thinking maybe in the high-$300,000s,” he said. “The car was only complied and registered in October.” Allen said there are regularly cars of this level sold at repossession auctions, with one such event held every quarter. Pickles will put several new and near-new Audi luxury cars under the hammer in the coming weeks after a dealership on the NSW central coast changed hands. “We’ve got about 30 brand new and demo model Audis that are repossessed that the finance company wants sold prior to Christmas,” Allen said. He said details of the Audi clearance auction will be released shortly on the company’s website. Source Follow @Karplod
